Global attention will turn to Canada after the 2008 Beijing Summer Games. There will be worldwide exposure and increased awareness of the many tourism opportunities that the entire country has to offer.

To maximize the opportunities presented by Vancouver hosting the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, the Government of Canada has announced $26 million over five years for the Canadian Tourism Commission.

This funding will allow the Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC) to leverage support for a key industry which plays an important role in the economy of all regions of Canada. With this opportunity, the CTC will advance its mandate to build enhanced global awareness of Canada’s tourism brand like never before.

The Canadian Tourism Commission works with its partners at both the provincial and regional levels on these initiatives and to stimulate travel in Canada through 2008 and beyond, it has created an Olympic Games Tourism Strategy entitled Leveraging Canada’s Games. By leveraging the media exposure afforded by the 2010 Winter Games, the CTC will work with its partners to differentiate Canada’s tourism brand and compel the world to explore Canada.
