The Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games are being staged in one of the most complex weather regions in the world. Weather can have a huge impact on a major sporting event such as the 2010 Winter Games. The slightest variation of wind can give a ski jumper an unfair disadvantage. A heavy snow storm could make transportation to Olympic venues difficult.
To address these challenges, the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC) has contracted with Environment Canada to deliver important weather services, including forecasts, warnings, and information for the 2010 Winter Games.
Environment Canada’s meteorological experts will be on-site at each venue, providing event decision-makers with crucial information on weather elements like precipitation, visibility, and wind.
At the same time, Environment Canada will supply transportation, security, and other essential agencies with the weather information needed to deliver a safe and secure 2010 Winter Games.
