Essential Federal Services

Whether it’s facilitating timely screening and passage across Canadian borders, ensuring the safety and security of athletes, spectators and citizens, or providing high-precision weather forecasts at competition venues, the Government of Canada will play a critical role during the 2010 Winter Games.

Through its commitment of $687.6 million the Government of Canada will deliver the following services within federal responsibility:

• Police and Security;
• Entry of Goods and Individuals into Canada;
• Intellectual Property Protection and Radio Spectrum;
• Meteorological Services;
• Public Health and Safety;
• Sustainability; and,
• Tax Issues.

The Government’s commitment to the delivery of essential services was established in the Multi-Party Agreement that was signed by key Games Partners during the bid for Vancouver 2010.

An Essential Federal Services (EFS) Committee has been established to ensure effective support and coordination related to the preparation and delivery of federal services for the 2010 Winter Games. The committee includes representation from all federal departments responsible for delivering essential services.
