A Paralympic Flame will be lit in the nation’s capital, sparking an inspirational journey that will illuminate the remarkable achievements of all Paralympians and celebrate the endless possibilities of the human spirit through sharing the message of courage and determination embodied by the flame.
On March 3, 2010, Canadians will come together to celebrate the beginning of the Paralympic Torch Relay on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, Ontario. This event marks the start of an extraordinary journey that begins only three days after the Olympic Flame is extinguished.
This is the first time that the Paralympic Torch Relay is taking place in Canada. During its voyage, the Paralympic Flame will be carried by close to 600 torchbearers.
The flame will travel for 10 days before arriving at the Opening Ceremony of the Paralympic Games at BC Place Stadium in Vancouver on March 12, 2010.
As it travels throughout communities in Canada, the Paralympic Torch Relay will bring Canadians together and foster enthusiasm and pride.
The Government of Canada invites all Canadians to get ready to host the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games as the Paralympic Flame visits Ottawa, Québec City, Toronto, and communities in British Columbia.
