To lend a festive air to the events, the committee chose coloured diagonal lines on signs, banners in rainbow colours and, at the competition sites, banners and signs on which pictograms of the sport or the official emblem of the Games appeared. Furthermore, 23000 uniforms were created for staff members.

The beaver, which is recognized as a patient and hardworking animal, was chosen as the official mascot of the Montréal Games. Given the name Amik, an Algonquin word meaning beaver, the mascot wore a red sash which bore the official emblem and represented the ribbons to which Olympic medals are attached.

The medal is also specially designed by the organizing city of the Games. The medals awarded at the Montréal Games illustrated on the obverse side the design representing Victory, Fraternity and Universality that was created for the Amsterdam Games in 1928. On the reverse side appeared a laurel wreath symbolizing victory, and the emblem of the Montréal Games.
